Current Students

Mohammad Zarrabi, Ph.D. student, since January 2017:

I grew up in Kermanshah, one of the western frontier cities in Iran. Having completed my high school, I moved to Isfahan, my native city and one of the most beautiful cities in Iran, and started my bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the Islamic Azad University (Najafabad Branch) in 2008. Being impressed by the world of geotechnics, I started my master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering at the Amirkabir University of Technology in 2012, immediately after the completion of my bachelor’s degree. Within two years of my master’s research and study, I involved myself deeply in laboratory experiments and physical modeling on deep foundations. I obtained my master’s degree in 2014 but continued my research in that area until 2016. During 2016, I found several PhD positions throughout the world including the US, Europe, Australia, and Canada, among which I chose the Ecole Polytechnique of Montreal for doing my PhD in 2017.

Project: I am currently working on creating a new constitutive model for sensitive clays for dynamic applications.

In 2014, I moved to France to continue my studies at the engineering school the Mines De Douai in the north of France where I chose civil engineering as specialty. After two years in Douai, I applied for a double degree at the Polytechnique Montreal where I am currently studying since August 2016.

Project: Under the supervision of Samuel Yniesta, I am working on a master’s project concerning the integration of viscoplastic effects in nonlinear ground response analysis in the Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering.
